Our Story
Based on the banks of the River Tay, one of the
fastest flowing rivers in Europe, we are ideally placed to provide you
with exciting and varied conditions for your Powerboat Training.
With its quick flowing tidal waters and shifting sandbanks the Tay
offers our students/customers a variety of testing conditions and
navigation problems that can rarely be equalled in any single
river or estuary system. Once mastered on the Tay these skills should
equip you to handle most open water situations, anywhere, up to the
conditions/waters applicable to your chosen course level.
Our Instructors are all very experienced
and knowledgeable boat handlers, with many years experience of the River
Tay (and other sea areas) and are keen to pass on their skills and
knowledge to enable you to experience the sense of freedom that comes
with being able to take a boat safely out on to the water.
Our Principal, Darryl Mayer, has been on
the water for as long as he can remember, indeed one of his most vivid
memories, at the age of eight, is that of helping his father waterproof
their homebuilt "stick and canvas" Canadian canoe by painting boiling
hot pitch on to the canvas skin of the canoe (no health and safety in
those days!). Darryl was always keen to join his father on his boat
trips, sometimes testing outboard motor repairs other times on his
father's diving trips. Sadly, Darryl lost his father several years later
in a motorboating accident where he too nearly lost his life, on the
Tay. This experience prompted him to reinforce and increase his huge
respect for the seas, instilled on him by his father, by undertaking
organised training and gaining recognised qualifications, for his loved
one's peace of mind, and has ultimately led to a desire to pass these
skills on to others by training as an RYA Advanced Powerboat Instructor.
You, and your loved ones, can rest assured that
your training with us, whilst striving to keep it exciting, will always
be conducted with safety in mind.
Our Location; For those coming via
the M90, take junction 9 and follow the A912 for approx
2miles east to Newburgh and Cupar then take the
first exit at the mini-roundabout onto the A913 go
thro' Abernethy. We can easily found on the High Street in Newburgh, on
the right-hand side if you are heading towards Cupar, immediately past
the junction for Hill Road also on the right (where there is ample
parking).
