Duration: Min of 8 Hrs Assessment

Previous Experience: None Required, (though you should purchase and read VHF G22/02 & VHF 26/02, available from the centre)

Minimum Age: There is no age bar to taking this course however, children cannot hold an Authority to Operate 'til they reach sixteen when their Certificate of Competence may be upgraded.

Course Aim: To equip the candidate with the skills and knowledge necessary to competently operate a Marine VHF Radio equipped with a D-class DSC (Digital Selective Calling) Controller.

Course Content: The course will cover:

• The History and Overview of GMDSS
• The Fitting Requirements of Radio Systems
• Operating Procedures and Protocols for VHF Radio
• Operating Procedures and Protocols for DSC Radio
• Info on Navtex, EPIRBS and SART's
• Hands-on Radio Practice and Assessment
• VHF/SRC Examination Paper (Pass Mark Required)

There are four ways to get your SRC Certificate;

1. For those with little/no radio experience, attend this 8hr course....................................................................£45 + £30 RYA Licence fee
2. For those with a non-GMDSS Cert.; attend a Short Course (conversion course)..............................................£25 + £30 RYA Licence fee
3. For those with no Cert. who do not wish to attend a course; apply to take a Full SRC Exam only......................£70
4. For those with a non-GMDSS Cert. who do not wish to attend a course; apply to take the Conversion Exam......£45
